Tiger Always moves the needdle
It was golf's celebrated United States Open, played June of 2008, at Torrey Pines. The effectively feeble national economy was going to go into a spiral. Tiger Woods, the lord of golf, was limping around Torrey Pines with a terrible knee yet staying high on the leaderboard. He and Rocco Mediate, went into a one-hole sudden death playoff, following an 18th hole playoff. Woods won.
After his triumph, Woods said he would miss the rest of the 2008 season due to that knee. The TV audience for the Torrey competition had bested even the National Basketball Association finals. Without Tiger whatever is left of the year, it went into a huge slump. Before long, another significant tournament drew around 33% the viewing audience drawn with Woods on the course.
